Reports for One Way Ticket 2008

Monday 22 June - Chepstow

Another fantastic run by "Ticket" to finish 4th, beaten just 2 lengths. He battled on strongly and his next entry will be posted when available.

Wednesday 10 June - Brighton

What a fantastic effort from "Tick" today to finish 4th on ground that was unsuitable. He is BACK!

Sunday 26 April - Brighton

A bad draw today for "Ticket" and a race that is best forgotten.

Friday 20 March - Lingfield 2009

Not the best of draw in 6 and he didn’t get out in front and Shane said it was pointless trying to go with the first starter and he held him in 5th off the bend looking as though he was going to be swallowed in the straight but he began to fight and though the winner cut across him inside the last furlong he ran on strongly to finish 3rd. A great run by "Ticket" who looked extremely well in himself and further entries will be posted when available.

Thursday 12 February - Kempton

A great run from "Ticket" today to finish 3rd. Hayley jumped him out well and "Tick" led to the furlong pole and battled on well. A very promising run and we will look for another 5 furlong race back at Kempton or Lingfield and entries will be posted when available.

Wednesday 28 January - Kempton 2009

Hayley’s first comments were how well he felt and looked on his way to post, trotted like a 3 year old behaving well as he walked into the stalls himself but in the race the plan to settle him in third or fourth didn’t work as Viewforth took the lead and he was so fresh and strong he demanded to be just behind that leader unable to get cover travelling so well to a furlong and a half out but had used up a lot of energy and didn’t find a lot when they charged for the line weakening inside the last to finish 7th but only beaten just over 4 lengths. Hayley suggests that we should look for a suitable 5 furlong race back at Lingfield or sit and wait for the turf season to begin.

Wednesday 14 January - Lingfield 2009

A nightmare at Lingfield with the fog causing delays but did well to get racing going at 1.10pm an hour later than the forecasted time. "Tick" was drawn 8 and we didn't expect too much unless luck played a big part but it didn't and things went haywire in the straight. On the turn with just two and a half furlongs to go "Tick" was in 4th place and then the field disappeared into the fog and during this time Dean went for a gap which shut on him very quickly and knocked him backwards eventually coming in 7th. No luck at all in running and further entries will be posted as soon as available. Even though things didn't go our way, shareholders still enjoyed a great afternoon out with first class hospitality laid on by Lingfield park.

Wednesday 17 December - Lingfield

6 furlongs today and Milton’s decision to hold him up just off the pace showed great improvement to finish 4th beaten two and a half lengths and just missing out on 3rd place by a short head. Hayley got him out and he was keen for the first furlong but she got him settled to travel smoothly up the inside but knew she had to get off that slow rail at some stage. Coming into the straight she saw the horse in front begin to weaken and switched him off the rail where he then started to run again, moved into third but a fast finisher got us on the line. Great to see "Tick" back in form and future entries will be posted when available.

Thursday 11 December - Great leighs

Eventually got a run but as we thought the 6 furlongs from a bad draw proved to be a very hard task for "Tick". Milton instructed the jockey to try and sit in behind the leaders because bursting out and leading from there to get to the bend first would have burnt him out completely by halfway and he managed to do that tracking the front runners to the bend, went ok to a furlong and a half out where the others quickened and he could not, finishing 7th without being knocked about. After the race Milton said how fierce the kickback was at the track and it was riding very loose which we know "Ticked" doesn't like. He has come out of the race ok and will post further entries when available.

Monday 29 September - Brighton

A bad draw in stall 10 for us to overcome today at Brighton and unfortunately "Ticket" couldn't get to the front. Our jockey Richard Quinn reported that the ground was loose on top today which was also against us. We await another day.

Tuesday 23 September - Folkestone

One Way Ticket didn't run today as heavy rain fell late morning which changed the forecast good to firm (Firm in places) to good to soft (Good in places).

Friday 25 July - Chepstow

Simply drawn wrong this evening and his next entry will be on Friday 8th August at Brighton.

Tuesday 15 July - Brighton

Trying six furlongs for the first time since his three year old days, he went off too fast and his jockey failed to settle him to get the trip and was the winner at five furlongs but weakened up the hill, his early efforts taking their toll and should have been more patient. Further details and entries in the post for shareholders. Disappointed with the ride today.

Saturday 28 June - Lingfield

Tried to get across from stall 2 to the rail which was always the plan but they went far too quickly up the rail for "Tick" to get across and as they met the one and a half furlong pole the ones up the rail quickened away, he'd given his all from his draw and the rail runner won the race. Fast time of 56 seconds was close to the record and has run a blinder under those circumstances from a bad draw. Will now go to Brighton on Tuesday with Shane Kelly riding.

Tuesday 24 June - Brighton

A crying shame that Racing Stripes in the stall next to "Ticket" got very upset which had a knock on affect on our horse who was moving around in the stalls and as they opened one came across him squeezing him out from his right and the horse in stall 3 came to his left and squeezed him out and at the first bend again squeezed from both sides and had to be yanked back and from this point race over. We await another day.

Friday 23 May - Brighton

All at Brighton had a great day out and his run into 2nd place shows he’s coming back to his best and William Buick gave him a good ride. It was the horse in stall 1, Our Fugitive who was determined to take us on for the lead and in fact he got to the first bend just in front but Ticket then grabbed the lead as they hurtled down the hill without the rail to run with and was still holding them a furlong out but Best One came with a rattle to take him but he was still staying on and battling away to be beaten a length in 2nd place. A fanatstic run from our "Tick" today at his favourite track and future entries will be posted when available.

Friday 14 March - Lingfield

Had a terrible draw again today in the 7 box, the same as last time at the track and one that is so difficult to overcome but he has run a real blinder today to match the eventual winner (Drawn 3) and as they turned for home the winner drifted across him and Chris Catlin had to move back inside but at the furlong pole “Ticket” was a neck in front but the early use of energy to get across began to tell and he weakened close home. Chris Catlin’s comments were very encouraging in that had he been able to get a very early lead and race up the rail, he thought he would have very nearly won as it was only late in the race that the early pace used to get into contention began to tell and the conclusion that the winner drawn 3, the 2nd drawn 1, 3rd drawn 4, tells it’s own story. Entries will be posted when available.

Monday 3 March - Lingfield 2008

Much care was needed today with his nightmare draw in stall 7 and as remarked with front runner Dodaa drawn 3 we were always going to be taken on for the lead and it’s exactly how it worked out. At Lingfield over 5 the stalls are placed away from the rails and having not got out on terms he had to race to get up with the two in front but was forced wide as the leader came up the inside and it is hard to get to grips with them and at the furlong pole weakened to finish 5th. A very big thank you to David (dwimages@blueyonder.co.uk) the Lingfield course photographer for the following fabulous photo's of "Ticket".

Sunday 24 February - Kempton 2008

Great to see "Ticket" back on the track today. As they broke from the stalls Sir Loin with a young apprentice on board, took him on until the bend where Hayley got in front but the pack came at him as they hit the furlong pole and Sir Loin dropped out last and as Ticket began to weaken was hampered by Bentley coming across him as Hayley snatched him up, he’d have finished a bit closer though the winner took it easily. Hayley reported that she could have done without that one taking us on early and she felt he needed this run. Milton also feels he will come on a lot for the race and further entries will be posted when available.

Wednesday 21 November - Kempton

A major problem from stall 2, if he didn’t get out he had no chance and though he got out in 3rd it was not possible to cut across and as they came into the straight it was clear his chance had gone as he can’t run on up the outside having used so much energy to get where he did and Francis Norton was not hard on him and let him come home in his own time. Unlucky with the draw tonight and further entries will be posted when available.

Sunday 11 November - Kempton

On a day when everything was right and the draw had been kind in the 10 box, of all the days to miss the break even by a split second cost him the race going down by a head and half a length. Sir Loin led him, Ticket in fact coming out in 5th place, not pinging as he usually does and not until after a furlong did he get to the front and got a 4 length lead into the straight but having pressed that accelerator early to get into position the energy used began to tell and they cut him down in the last 20 yards catching him close home. A brilliant effort from "Ticket" and Hayley and will hope to get him back at Kempton or at Lingfield very soon. A great day out for our shareholders.

Friday 12 October - Wolverhampton

Would have liked to have gone to Kempton on Saturday which would have been ideal over 5 furlongs but didn't get in and decided to take our chance at Wolves over 6 but the track was against him; fast on the outer and slow on the inside where all the winners came wide in the previous races and Hayley could never get clear enough to move wide into the straight, had to suffer the rail run on the slowest part of the track, not hard on him when it was clear conditions were not right. May go to Brighton or Nottingham Thursday if we get firm ground.

Thursday 4 October - Kempton

A fantastic run by "Ticket", in first time blinkers, Hayley getting across from him out well from his low draw to take the lead over this six furlongs and they set a blistering pace for the first five furlongs just running out of juice in the final furlong but holding on for third place well ahead of the rest of the field. We will now await a 5 furlong race back on the all weather or on turf if we can get fast ground. A superb effort by "Ticket" and Hayley.

Thursday 13 September - Chepstow

Once more the ground didn’t help as it was only good and not much firm after early week watering. Also in the stalls again too early after being asked if he could go in last, played up and was desperate to get out. However, he led the stands side runners but the horse drawn middle to low were on the quicker area and he was beaten into 5th with the first 4 towards the other side of the track and in consequence was drawn too high and J.P. Guillambert did the best he could from where he was positioned. However, J.P. described the ground as a joke with firm and soft patches all over and was convinced the better ground was far side where the first 4 travelled. Had he been drawn low, would have gone close. Further entries will be posted when available.

Monday 10 September - Bath

Had little option but to run today in view of the poor ground conditions at Chepstow last Friday after over watering made it soft. Would have rather waited until Thursday but if the same happens it wouldn’t suit. Hindsight is a wonderful because he didn’t get out on terms today and never got a clear lead in fact didn’t ping the stalls as usual as the starter waited a long time and was restless. However, he was still battling away until horses cut across him coming home in 7th place. Will see how he is in the morning and how the ground looks on Thursday at Chepstow before deciding if we run.

Thursday 6 September - Salisbury

From where "Ticket" was drawn in stall 5, it was a case of a watching brief in particular that he had a front runner in the stall next to him who got away first and though matching strides with him to halfway he could never get to the front and as we know it doesn’t go his way unless he is out on his own. This was a hot race for the grade and without a high draw you can’t win with the winner 14, 2nd drawn 12 and 3rd 10. "Ticket" got upset being in the stalls a long time which we could all see, Jimmy got him out well and travelled ok to half way but he’s a fast ground horse and it was only good ground, as the course had over watered and would you believe he came back with mud on his chest. Will see how he is in a couple of days and further entries will be posted.

Friday 31 August - Sandown

As the jockeys walked around the start the starter told them all that there was an electronic fault with the stalls button; to load and wait for his call; His first call Ticket was ready; not open; quick 2nd call, still not open and didn’t until the third press by this time Ticket was not ready, fell out of the stalls and from then Dane said there was no point in it and allowed him to come home in his own time. A very unfortunate incident and further entries will be posted when available.

Thursday 9 August - Brighton

Back on his favourite track with the forecast good to firm but this year have moved from 5 and a half furlongs to 6 furlongs and 3 yards, moving the start up the track because of the change of the first bend elongating the race. Pinged the stalls and was very soon in front and led the field a merry dance and at the bottom of the hill still had two lengths to the good and was finding more when Stephen asked him and only in the final 50 yards did he relinquish the lead. However, when Stephen dismounted he said a furlong out his back end swung to his right and it transpires that his offside rear shoe pinged off which which won't have helped but it came off clean and no damage. A great ride by jockey Stephen Donaghue who followed instructions throughout. He is in again at Nottingham on Tuesday and Sandown on Wednesday and will see how he is before we decide where to go.

Monday 6 August - Windsor

Back on the track after a long wait for the right ground and with Ryan on board we had things in our favour. Ryan got him out quickly and though he just slightly faltered he was away and still led at the two pole but they were coming at him at this point and he was shown on the head on to have faltered for a few strides but ran on strongly inside the last to finish a gallant 2nd. He is in again at Brighton on Thursday and if he is ok after this race, he will run. Another good run from our stalwart.

Friday 8 June - Brighton

Over five and a half furlongs today at Brighton and with a draw in the 1 box Hayley's job was to jump him out, grab the rail and go!!! A brilliant effort from "Ticket" and "Hayley" just losing the lead half a furlong out finishing a gallant 3rd.

Friday 1 June - Wolverhampton

A fantastic run from "Ticket" to get to the front from a terrible draw in box 11 and hung on well for 2nd place. He may run next week at Brighton.

Tuesday 8 May - Catterick

Could not get to the front and Racoon was a well handicapped horse and Milton was right that he would be a problem. He got out in front of us and took the race along at a blistering pace and “Ticket” was running 2nd to him until 2 out but Mickey Fenton said he just couldn’t get to him as he grabbed the rail position on the fastest part of the track and just bounced clear of the field. If “Ticket is ok he may go to Nottingham this Saturday”.

Sunday 29 April - Brighton

A great first run of the season by Ticket today, getting out of the stalls well and led by a length after a furlong and a half but at halfway drifted unusually to his right and was in the centre of the course at halfway but Jamie allowed him to do so still on a full stride and at the furlong pole said he still had something to fight with as Misaro came sweeping past on the outside hanging in on Ticket and Jamie had to take evasive action for a stride or two which probably cost us 2nd place as he was running on again as soon as they straightened up. His next run will be at Catterick on the 8th May.

Wednesday 20 December - Lingfield

One Way Ticket ran a great race to finish 4th over six furlongs. He broke well and was soon blazing the pace with a five length lead until the final bend, changing legs in the final half furlong and just didn't get home after his early exertions. We will now wait for a 5 furlong race back at Lingfield.

Friday 8 December - Wolverhampton

The only question mark today was the track as he had never tried this 5 furlongs at Wolverhampton. Unfortunately the track had been harrowed to open up the surface for forecast rain (Which didn't arrive) leaving the going loose and fluffy, riding slow and not suiting our "Ticket". Nevertheless he ran a superb race to finish 3rd and we will now wait to get him back at Lingfield.

Sunday 3 December - Lingfield

A fantastic run once again by "Ticket" to finish 2nd again, just caught a little flat footed at the start missing the break by a split second but was in the front after a furlong only getting beaten on the line by Rowe Park by a short head. A very fast time recorded today and if he is ok in the morning, we may go to Kempton this coming Wednesday.

Tuesday 28 November - Lingfield

Plagued with the worst draw possible in 12 of the 12 runners and a nightmare box for a horse that must front run but Mickey Fenton rode a blinder to get him out and across and in the lead and was still holding a 3 length lead into the last furlong when Zazous came late and fast to catch him a half a furlong out. There is no doubt that Mickey Fenton rode a peach from that draw and if Ticket had have been drawn lower we may well have won. Although this was six furlongs "Ticket" showed his speed to get a lead and prove that he can win over this distance giving more options but as Milton said he would have won at 5 furlongs today; quite right. A great run by our horse and a great day for shareholders at the cousre.

Monday 20 November - Southwell

Our chance had arrived to try One Way Ticket on the all weather over five furlongs at Southwell and from draw 6 poised to be able to front run but John Egan didn’t get him out and could not get to the lead and after a furlong his report was that he was not handling the surface and didn’t knock him about when he was not going forward letting him come home in his own time. We will give him one more run at Lingfield next Tuesday.

Friday 6 October - York

Since his run at York he has dropped from 74 to 70 and hopefully we will be finding a suitable race for him in the very near future. Watch this space for further details.

Tuesday 12 September - Yarmouth

Ground too loose today after heavy watering and though instructing the jockey to come up the rails, he and he alone made the decision to look for better ground up the centre of the track but that was really no good to "Ticket" as he couldn't get far enough in front. Not suggesting he would have won up on the rails but it would have been nice to try and for someone in the jockey industry to do as they are told. Am sure that they think that they know much more than anyone else in the world.

Friday 8 September - Sandown

Hampered by his wide 3 draw as expected he couldn't get to the front though he showed good speed to 2 furlongs out where he began to weaken finishing mid-field but only beaten four and a half lengths. Ted reported him extremely well in himself and "Ticket" ran all the way to the line and with a better draw would have finished much closer.

Saturday 26 August - Chester

The ground today at Chester was good (Good to soft in places) so this was a hard task for Ticket from a bad draw in 7. He jumped out and Royston French got him to the front but was taken on at the same time by another runner and a combination of not being able to front run, the ground and draw Ticket was eventually eased and not given a hard time. We await another day.

Thursday 3 August - Goodwood 2006

Not a very good draw for us today in 13 and the decision to go and front run was made. What didn't help was that "Ticket" was in the stalls for a full 4 minutes and Neil reported he was going mad, kicking at the stalls and rearing and was totally disgusted with the stall handlers for putting horse and jockey in this situation. One Way tTcket lost a lot of energy in the stalls but still jumped out well to front run to a furlong and a half out when he began to weaken and from that point Neil wasn't hard on him. Unfortunate with the draw but someone has to have it! A great day out at Goodwood had by all shareholders.

Wednesday 26 July - Catterick

Went into this race with his highest rating to date and though getting away on terms after his jockey misread the start he was soon in front and at halfway all looked to be going right but he stopped quickly and there was no fight in him to pick up the leaders again dropping away to finish 6th and though only beaten 4 lengths this was not his true run. The initial thoughts that the grade was too high and that so much travelling in excessive heat conditions were the cause of his run but it came to light whilst being led back to the stables that his off fore shoe had been ripped off at some stage and though we will never find out when on describing his running could well have been at the halfway stage of the contest. Horses cannot grip fast ground with a racing shoe missing in particular if it is the front. Thankfully as the shoe was ripped off it didn't cause him any injuries. Explanation found. Watch out for Goodwood August 3rd.

Thursday 13 July - Warwick

A more difficult race for "Ticket" today having been put up 6lbs for his Brighton win. Liam Treadwell was booked to help take 5lbs weight off his back but unfortunately the race didn't work out as planned. Liam couldn't get "Ticket" to the front and soon he had horses coming either side of him and as we all know this doesn't suit his style of racing and race over. Our next plan is to go to Goodwood.

Tuesday 4 July - Brighton

What a ride and race this was with Ryan Moore pinging him out of the stalls, going two lengths clear after a furlong then crossing over to the stands rail at halfway and staying on very strongly up the hill to beat some in form horses by three and a half lengths. A fantastic result for all involved and what a day to remember for Saracen shareholders at the course with the champagne flowing freely. Well done "Ticket, Ryan and Milton".

Friday 16 June - York

Having got out first from the stalls, Tony Hamilton went a furlong and a half and seemed to ease him off slightly as they moved into the centre of the track allowing horses to get at him on both sides which as we know this doesn't suit "Ticket's" style of racing. From there on "Ticket's" chance had gone. He is fine and watch for his further entries. Another frustrating day but that's racing.

Friday 9 June - Brighton

What a fantastic run from Ticket considering the stress involved getting him to the course today. With the M25 closed it was a race against the clock to get him to the track in time for his race! All credit to Milton's team. Richard Quinn jumped him out and got him across from his draw 8 to lead until a furlong out, with Ticket fighting on to take 3rd place. He was in need of the run today and will be running again very soon.

Saturday 29 April -

One Way Ticket is doing well in his training and is doing 2 canters a day plus a daily stint on the horsewalk to bring him to peak fitness. He still loves his refreshers but will have to go onto sugar free polos once race fit!

Saturday 15 April - Latest report 2006

Is coming on well and though no serious work yet, he has his two canters a day, a spin on the horse walk and a roll in the paddock twice a week showing his gradual change from being let down to race fitness. This cannot be rushed neither can the change of food from grass to “Racing” food. Milton anticipates he could be ready towards the middle to end of May providing we get decent weather and no set backs. Milton is delighted with his rest period and has put on quite a lot of weight which is now to be changed to muscle. Regular updates will follow.

Saturday 17 December - Lingfield

One Way Ticket will now be resting and will be seen out again in 2006.

Sunday 16 October - Mussleburgh

Unfortunate today that the ground was loose and on the good side and although Jamie got him out with the two on his inside all racing together for the first two furlongs, it was at this point those on the outer came across him and Jamie had to snatch up and from that point his race over and Jamie eased him home. One Way Ticket is fine after his run.

Monday 19 September - Leicester

Couldn't have given us a worse draw lumbering us with 15 of 15 when number 1 was the ideal at this track up the stands rail. We had no option but to shoot across to the far rail as staying where we were in the 15 box was not an option. Jimmy Quinn carried out our instructions leading to 2 out but as the camera angle changed it was clear we were not going to win and as expected the horse drawn number 1 up the stands rail on the fastest strip came home to score easily. We will pray again that next time we get a decent draw!

Tuesday 13 September - Yarmouth

A smashing run from our horse despite the touch of looseness on the track and Jamie reported he was kicking and bucking on the way to the start. Jamie got him out well and came accross to the stands side but not quite up the rail and was still in front when they approached the final furlong. Ticket was only beaten 3/4 length and our jockey reported he is in great shape. A great day out at Yarmouth enjoyed by some shareholders and what a fantastic run from our great servant, ONE WAY TICKET.

Tuesday 23 August - Yarmouth

Another bad draw today 1 of 11 today at Yarmouth. Ted Durcan also reported the ground was too loose for Ticket but is in great heart giving him a great feel. 2 bad draws from 2 runs is unfair, let's hope next time we can do better with the draw.

Saturday 20 August - Chester

We knew that "Ticket" had no chance from the coffin box draw of 10 of 10 at Chester today. The jockey tried to get him out in front but was bumped by a horse on his left and at that point his race over. The jockey didn't give him a hard time and this run has got to be ignored.

Saturday 13 August - Newbury

The decision was made at 3.30pm not to run our horse due to the ground changing from firm to soft during the afternoon. We are all aware that our horse likes firm ground and we will await another day.

Wednesday 20 July - Catterick

What a wonderful WIN for our horse today. Everything was in our favour and we expected a big run despite his step up in class and he didn't let us down. The draw 3, fast track and beatable opposition told us if he got to the front, they had to catch us! Neal Callan gave him the perfect ride leading from start to finish beating Trick Cyclist half a length. This was a super performance from One Way Ticket, one of his very best from a mark of 77 and we must thank our trainer Milton Bradley and his staff.

Friday 15 July - Warwick

Although only 2nd, this was perhaps one of his best runs as he was taking on better opposition than he had faced in the past. Though he was headed one furlong out he fought back with guts pulling all the deficit back except for a head by the line and anyone in the Racing Press that calls him a non-fighter will have to review their words BIG TIME! We promised you he would go to Glorious Goodwood and it is now looking as though we may make it. WHAT A CRACKING RACEHORSE!
